Man Shot In Downtown Newark: Police A man is recovering after being shot in downtown Newark on the afternoon of Thursday, Sept. 5, authorities said. At 4:40 p.m., police responded to the 700 block of Broad Street and found a man who had been shot, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. Joshua M. Perez was one of three armed robbers who commited a Oct. 10 carjacking, another on Dec. 5 and the robbery later than second night of a local gas station, U.S. Attorney Philip R.
