South Jersey Corrections Officer Who Sexually Assaulted Girl Under 13 Sentenced: Prosecutors
A Cape May County corrections officer will spend more than a quarter-century in prison for sexually assaulting a girl younger than 13 years old, authorities said. Jonathan Perez, 35, of Woodbine, was sentenced on Thursday, Aug. 8 to 30 years in state prison, Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland said in a news release. Tornado Watch Shifts, Now Covers These Counties Across NJ, PA As Debby Creeps In
The National Weather Service has shifted its tornado watch across New Jersey and Pennsylvania as Hurricane Debby creeps in. In New Jersey, the tornado watch is in effect through 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9 and covers Bergen, Essex, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren counties in North Jersey. In Pennsylvania, the tornado watch is issued in Lehigh, Northampton, Carbon, Monroe, and Bucks counties. West Nile, EEE Detected In Eight Mosquito Groups In South Jersey
Cape May County leaders are issuing a warning after eight mosquito groups tested positive for West Nile virus and eastern equine encephalitis. Seven mosquito collections tested positive for West Nile and EEE was detected in another during June and July, the Cape May County Department of Health said in a news release on Monday, July 22. Man Found Dead On Jersey Shore Beach, Police Investigating
A man was found dead on a beach in Cape May County, authorities said. Wildwood Crest police responded to the beach near Myrtle Road at around 6:20 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2, the department said in a news release. A former Ocean City lifeguard and Atlantic County teacher avoided jail time after he was accused of sexual misconduct, authorities said.
