Rutgers Basketball Coach Reveals Cancer Diagnosis Rutgers men's basketball coach Steve Pikiell revealed he is battling cancer and will undergo treatment during the season. Pikiell, who has coached at Rutgers since 2016 and led the Scarlet Knights to two NCAA Tournament appearances, said he sought medical care a couple of months ago after he wasn't feeling 100 percent.  A series of tests revealed he had cancer. Medics pronounced the person dead at 12:39 p.m. Police secured the scene as investigators worked to determine the person’s identity and how they died. No additional details were immediately released.
