25 NJ Landlords Who Considered Tenants' Criminal History Facing Fines, AG Says
Twenty-five landlords are facing fines after state officials said they violated state laws by considering potential tenants' criminal histories. According to NJ Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin and the Division on Civil Rights (DCR), the notices of violation allege that the housing providers violated the law by, among other things, asking criminal history-related questions on housing applications that are prohibited by the law. Man Gave Fake Name, Had Drugs, Outstanding Warrants During Denville Traffic Stop: Police
A 31-year-old Lake Hopatcong resident was arrested and charged on Wednesday, Sept. 11, with possessing drugs and giving police a fake name during a traffic stop in Denville, authorities said. At 11:15 a.m., officers pulled over a vehicle on Route 53 South for multiple equipment violations, Denville police said in a release. During the stop, officers discovered the driver of the vehicle, Edwin Wendlocher, possessed a controlled dangerous substance, drug paraphernalia and Wendocher gave the officer a false name, police said. Two West Nile Virus-Related Deaths Among Six New Cases Reported In New Jersey
New Jersey health officials are reporting an additional six cases of West Nile Virus including two deaths, and two presumptive viremic blood donor (PVD) cases in the state. The six new WNV cases are residents of Bergen, Camden, Cumberland, Hudson, Mercer, and Middlesex counties (one 50+, two 60+, one 70+, two 80+). The National Weather Service has shifted its tornado watch across New Jersey and Pennsylvania as Hurricane Debby creeps in. In New Jersey, the tornado watch is in effect through 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9 and covers Bergen, Essex, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren counties in North Jersey. NJ Reports Three West Nile Virus Cases
The New Jersey Department of Health has confirmed the state’s first human cases of the West Nile Virus, much earlier than in prior seasons. Two residents, one more than 70 years old and the other under 18, tested positive for the illness transmitted by mosquitoes after reporting symptoms in the first week of July, the state's health department said. Two drivers including the husband of a woman killed were found at fault in the Route 9 crash last month in Old Bridge, authorities said.
