Rail service into New York was disrupted Friday, March 13, just as major Portal Bridge cutover work was expected to wrap up this weekend. Damaged Amtrak overhead wire infrastructure near the old Portal Bridge caused NJ TRANSIT rail service to operate with limited service in both directions between Newark Penn Station and Penn Station New York, according to NJ TRANSIT. Trains were subject to delays of up to 60 minutes due to the issue, NJ TRANSIT said. Man Killed By NJ Transit Train, Rail Officials Say; Heavy Delays Reported
A person was fatally struck by a train near Newark Airport on Wednesday morning, July 16, authorities said. The man, who has not been identified, was struck by a train at 8 a.m., NJ Transit said. The train departed Trenton at 7:11 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Penn Station at 8:23 a.m. There were no reported injuries to the 800 customer and crew on board. A crash between three buses closed the Port Authority Bus Terminal for more than three hours on Wednesday, July 2, upending the morning of commute for thousands of riders. At 6:15 a.m., Port Authority police responded to a crash involving three NJ Transit buses at the bus terminal, the agency said. Fourteen people sustained minor injuries, with 13 people being hospitalized, the Port Authoritiy said. Rail service on the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line has resumed in both directions following a trespasser fatality at Elizabeth Station, NJ Transit announced.
