Five people were arrested after multiple raids in Hudson, Essex and Union counties last month uncovered $7,000 in illegal drugs, authorities said. A 23-year-old Hillside man was convicted of first-degree murder on Friday, Nov. 1. for shooting and eventually killing Quamir Nelson in two different drive-by shootings i 2021. The rightward shift of the country in the 2024 presidential election happened right in the Garden State. According to Redfin, home prices were up 14.9% compared to last year in Essex County for September 2024. Homes sold for a median price of $650,000. The bodies of two severely burned girls ages 6 and 8 were found at a Newark home following a fire over the weekend, officials said. Witnesses told detectives that there had been a birthday party for one of the girls on the second floor of the home and they'd been playing with fire near a couch in the hallway of the Eckert Street home on Saturday, Oct. 20, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said. Firefighters responding around 12:30 a.m. found the girls unresponsive and severely burned inside. They performed CPR, but the children were reported dead at the scene, authorities said. …

Two Hudson County men were sentenced to years in prison on Tuesday, Oct. 15 for their role in a series of robberies at gas stations in 2022, authorities said. It's been a busy four months for the Essex County Prosecutor's Homicide Task Force. Fourteen suspects have been arrested in 12 Newark committed from Saturday, June 1 through Monday, Sept. 30, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Frage said. On Tuesday, June 4, Ty'Shon Young, a 27-year-old Newark resident was killed in a double shooting on the 200 block of South Orange Avenue, authorities said. Man Fatally Stabbed in East Orange: Prosecutor
A 51-year-old man was fatally stabbed in East Orange on the morning of Sunday, Oct. 13, authorities said. At 11:29 a.m., East Orange police responded to an apartment on the 500 block of Main Street and found William Gilliam with apparent stab wounds, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and East Orange Police Chief Phyllis Bindi said. Gilliam was pronounced dead soon after, authorities said. This incident is being investigated by the Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force, which includes detectives from the East Orange Police Department, authorities said.
