Witty Jr. 39 of Toms River, died at about 5:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 16, while crossing Route 37, Toms River police said. He was not in a crosswalk when he was struck, police said. Police were dispatched to Route 37 east and Marian Street, in reference to a man wandering in the street in the westbound lanes. Claudine Silverstri was heading west on Route 571 in the left lane when she suddenly drifted into the right and struck a curb and guardrail near Oak Ridge Parkway around 7 a.m., a witness told police. Jersey Shore Man Gets 2 Years Probation For Driving Over 5 Geese A 22-year-old man from Ocean County, who admitted intentionally driving over five geese, was sentenced to probation for animal cruelty, authorities said. In addition to 10 days of community service, Quintin Alec-Manning of Brick Township was sentenced to two years probation for the crime, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer. The prosecutor's office had sought a 90-day jail sentence, he said. Alec-Manning was sentenced on Wednesday by Superior Court Judge Guy P. Ryan, who also said that the defendant cannot own or work with animals during his probation. …
