$500 Million Open-Air Redevelopment Of Monmouth Mall Begins
A more than $500 million project to transform a Monmouth County mall into an open-air town center has officially begun, officials said. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Thursday, May 9 at the Monmouth Mall in Eatontown, developer Kushner said in a news release on Monday, May 13. The mall will be redeveloped into a modern center with luxury apartments, new retail options, and medical office space called Monmouth Square. Kushner said the project to "de-mall" the property off Route 35 will bring a new purpose to the historic Monmouth Mall, which has been open for 64 years. …

A restaurant chain specializing in fresh salads and other healthy food options is opening its first location on the Jersey Shore this week. Just Salad will hold the grand opening for its location in the Brook 35 shopping plaza on Route 35 in Sea Girt on Friday, Feb. 2, the company said. Seal Stops Traffic On NJ Highway
A wayward Grey seal pup stopped traffic along Route 35 in Brick, authorities said. Brick police found a seal trying to cross the busy highway on Monday, Feb. 27, Police were able to stop traffic and safely allow the seal to cross, they said. The Marine Mammal Stranding Center, which responded with a volunteer and technician, said it's not the first time a seal has tried to cross Route 35 due to the close proximity of both the bay and ocean. Middletown police released a photo of a puppy that was stolen from a local pet shop. On Thursday, May 19, at 1:15 p.m., Middletown Township police responded to The Pet Shop, at 1284 Route 35, for a report of a puppy being stolen from the store. The owner reported that a young black male came into the store and asked if the store had any cockapoo or Goldendoodle puppies for sale. A bicycle-riding ex-con who tossed a gun as he tried to evade pursuing Newark police officers was sentenced Monday to a plea-bargained 32 months in federal prison. Joseph Triplett, 32, of East Orange, was maneuvering his bike around pedestrians on a South 8th Street sidewalk when an officer tried to stop him in September 2019, Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Teen Struck, Killed In Route 35 Hit-Run
A 15-year-old was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash early Sunday on Route 35. The crash occurred near South Pine Avenue around 3:45 a.m., the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and Sayreville Police Department said. The victim's name was not released. Authorities believe a Honda Accord was involved in the incident. A Jersey Shore man was arrested for setting off molotov cocktails in a local Route 35 parking lot three nights last week, authorities said. Brendan J. Dunne, 24, of Holmdel, set off a series of fires believe to have started in a glass bottle containing charred pieces of cardboard in the Route 45 Costco and Cinemark parking lot July 19, 21 and 22, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said.
