Fugitive Sought In Jersey City Mom's Murder Arrested In Colombia: Prosecutor
A 28-year-old Jersey City man was extradited from Colombia to the United States on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and charged with murdering a woman in Kearny in 2023, authorities said. Leiner Miranda Lopez had previously been charged with killing Luz Hernandez, a 33-year-old Jersey City mom in February 2023, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Hernandez's body was discovered in a shallow grave in the area of Central Avenue and Third Street in Kearny, Suarez said. A 27-year-old Denville man was arrested and charged after he spat on a police officer on Thursday, Sept. 5, authorities said. Officers responded to a welfare check and observed Carlos Vergne stumbling down the road from the residence with no shoes on, Denville police said. A Mays Landing woman will spend more than half a decade in prison after admitting to killing her husband during an argument in their home on Christmas night, authorities said. Paterson Officer Released Pending Trial On Stalking, Cyber Harassment Charges: Prosecutor
A 38-year-old Paterson police officer has been indicted by a grand jury on domestic violence charges, authorities said. Alberto Sanabria was indicted on on one count of third-degree terroristic threats, one count of fourth-degree cyber harassment, and one count of fourth degree stalking, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said. Police did not release details in Sanabria's arrest. Sanabria was released on a summons and is expected to appear before Superior Court Judge Barbara Buono Stanton on Aug. 19.
