Passaic County is seeing red for the first time since 1992. The reliably Democrat county voted for President-elect Donald Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris, 95,620 votes to 89,086 votes, 50% to 46.6%. It was the first time Passaic County had voted a Republican for president since 1992 and the first time a Republican got 50% of the vote since George H.W. Bush in 1988. NY Man Scams Elderly NJ Resident Out Of $432K In Home Improvement Scheme: Prosecutor
A New York man has been charged with money laundering on accusations he stole $432,000 from an elderly New Jersey resident in a home improvement scam, authorities said. Abba Cohen, 42, of Flushing, NY, received the money in his bank account as payment for a home improvement scam on an elderly Woodland Park resident, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said. Justin Hoyt, Passaic County Native, Dies, 26
Passaic County native Justin Hoyt died on Tuesday, Aug. 27, his obituary on the Shook's Cedar Grove Funeral Home website says. He was 26 years old. A Woodland Park native, Justin also lived in Little Falls but had moved to California two years ago to bettering himself and "working with those suffering from addiction, helping others on their journey," his obituary says. Trio Found With Airsoft Gun After Pursuit-Crash In North Jersey: Police
Three men seen trying to break into a home were arrested following a police pursuit, Saturday, Aug. 16 in North Jersey, authorities said. At 3:10 p.m., officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress at a home on Forest Place, where three men with ski masks were at the back door, Fairfield police said in a release. They were seen fleeing the area in a gray Honda CRV after the caller scared them off, police said. Anthony "Tony" Camal, a world-renowned Judo master and Paterson firefighter, died on Monday, July 29, according to his obituary on the Festa Memorial website. He was 63 years old. Raised in Inwood, NY, Camal later moved to Totowa and Paterson, where he served for 15 years on the fire department before retiring as captain in 2013. He later settled in Woodland Park. Camal was the head sensei of Camal & Cruz Judo and Jiu Jitsu Academy since 1995, having been a sixth-degree black belt and world champion, according to his obituary. Eighteen people were arrested and more than $22,000 was seized in a widespread prostitution bust across Passaic County, authorities said. Acting on citizen complains, multiple divisions of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office conducted a quality of life operation on July 23 and 24, Acting Sheriff Gary Giardina said.
