Murphy Waives NJ Transit Fares: Here's What To Know Want to take NJ Transit for free? Now is your chance. Gov. Phil Murphy announced a transit fare holiday for all customers from Monday, Aug. 26 through Monday, Sept. 2.   During this period, fares will be waived for all modes of transportation. Amtrak and NJ Transit customers were livid over service disruptions between Penn Station and Newark due to downed power lines blocking the tracks on Wednesday evening, May 22. In a statement posted to X, Amtrak said service was stopped at 5:36 p.m. with no estimation of restoration. As of 10 p.m., widespread delays were being reported by Amtrak.
