Jersey Shore UMC Surgeon Dies During Medical Episode On Garden State Parkway A 54-year-old Toms River surgeon died following a medical episode while driving on the Garden State Parkway in Ocean County on Thursday, Jan. 30, authorities said. At 7:10 a.m., Dr. Jarrod Kaufman was driving a Tesla Model Y northbound on the Garden State Parkway in Lakewood Township, when his vehicle veered off the roadway into a briar patch, Chares Marchan, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said.  Kaufman sustained a medical episode and was pronounced dead at the scene, Marchan said. Double Murder Gets Toms River Man 30 Years: Prosecutor A 42-year-old Toms River man was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Tuesday, Jan. 9 for his role in the murder of two people in 2021, authorities said. Tyshaun Drummond was convicted of two counts of murder following a month long trial, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said. Drummond was also sentenced to 10 years in prison, to run consecutively, for being convicted of burglary, Billhimer said. Hit-Run Crash Leaves Pedestrian Critical, Ocean County Prosecutor Says Authorities in Ocean County are investigating a hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian seriously injured. The male victim was trying to cross Route 9 at First Street in a marked crosswalk around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, June 16 when he was struck by a white sedan heading north, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said. The white sedan continued northbound on Route 9 and left the scene.
