Longtime Bergen County Mayor Dies: 'A Good Neighbor'
Longtime Cresskill Mayor Benedict Romeo died over the weekend after 26 years in office. Romeo, 77, died on Saturday, Feb. 22, Bergenfield Mayor Emeritus Norman Schmelz said. "I was able to work with him during my six years as mayor," Schmelz said. "He was a good neighbor." Romeo, a Republican, had been serving as mayor since 1999 and his term was set to end in December 2027.
