1 Dead In Gunfire Exchange With Cops In Jersey City: AG A man was fatally shot during an encounter with Jersey City police early Tuesday, Oct. 21, authorities said. Officers from the Jersey City Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit encountered the man in the area of Bergen and Virginia avenues shortly after 1 a.m., according to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability. Gunfire was exchanged and the civilian was struck, the office said in a statement. A gun was recovered at the scene. Authorities on Friday, Nov. 22, named Brandon Lee Ortega as the individual who died following a foot chase with Guttenberg police on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
