Former NJ Lifeguard, NC Police Officer Dies In Supermarket Shooting: 'He Was Amazing' A New Jersey native who was a police officer in North Carolina was shot and killed at a Greensboro supermarket just two days before Christmas, authorities said. Officer Michael Horan died in the shooting while responding to a report of an armed man at a Food Lion on Monday, Dec. 23, the Greensboro Police Department said in a news release. The Beach Haven native was 44 years old.
