Man Fatally Shot In Newark: Prosecutors
A man was fatally shot in Newark on the evening of Tuesday, July 2, authorities said. At 9:30 p.m., police responded to the 200 block of Park Avenue and found an unresponsive male suffering from a gunshot wound, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Frage said. Newark Man Admits To Carjacking, Armed Robbery Spree: Feds
A 28-year-old Essex County man admitted to committing a spree of robberies and a carjacking in federal court on Thursday, June 27, authorities said. In Dec. 2021, Deion Nance carjacked a person at gunpoint, taking their 2016 Toyota Corolla, by pointing a gun at their face, pulling the victim out of their vehicle and driving away, U.S. Attorney Philip Sellinger said. NJ Homeless Shelter Killer Gets 22 Years, Prosecutor Says
A 33-year-old Newark man was sentenced to 22 years in prison after being found guilty of stabbing his roommate to death at a shelter in 2022, authorities said. In February 2022, Michael Wylie snuck a knife into the H.E.L.P. Center Shelter and stabbed Kevin Williams, his roommate, in the face, neck and heart, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II said. Wylie was arrested while still in possession of the knife, Stephens said. Wylie was convicted in April of aggravated manslaughter and weapons charges, Stephens said.

A 23-year-old East Orange man was recently convicted of aggravated assault after violently beating a woman over a remote control in 2023, authorities said. In April 2023, John Davis was staying in a woman's apartment when he assaulted her when she raised an issue over a TV remote control, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II said. A 30-year-old Newark woman whose 5-year-old son shot and killed his 4-year-old brother, has been convicted in the 2022 murder of a man, authorities said. Itiyanah Spruill was convicted of murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the fatal shooting of Lance Sally, Jr. in Nov. 2022, following a two-week trial, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II said.
