East Orange Man Gets Four+ Years For Stealing Checks From Mail: Feds
A 23-year-old East Orange man was sentenced to more than four years in prison on Tuesday, Oct. 1, after admitting to stealing checks from the mail, authorities said. From January 2020 to March 2022, Baba Diakite, Nasir Johnson and others conspired to steal checks from the mail in communities across New Jersey, US Attorney Philip Sellinger said. A Plainsboro man was accused of sexually assaulting two children and uploading pictures of the abuse on the dark web, authorities said. Anthony Lagotta Jr., 54, was charged with one count each of production and possession of child pornography, New Jersey's U.S. Attorney Philip Sellinger said in a news release on Tuesday, Aug. 20. Columbia HS Principal Reinstated After Charges Dropped
Frank Sanchez has been reinstated as principal at Columbia High School after a grand jury declined to indict him on charges of child endangerment. Sanchez was reinstated at a South Orange-Maplewood School District Board of Education meeting on Thursday, June 27, on a 6-1 vote, with two board members abstaining. The charges against Sanchez stem from an incident involving a student in January at the school in the district, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said. Jersey City Man Stole From Union City Homeowner's Association: Prosecutor
A 39-year-old Jersey City man was arrested and charged on Monday, June 17 with stealing more than $150,000 from a homeowner's association in Union City, authorities said. Eric Li misused funds from the homeowner's association for personal gain while he served as board president from 2017 to 2023, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. He was charged with one count of theft by unlawful taking, Suarez said. He was released pending his first court appearance next month, Suarez said.

Jersey City Charter School Teacher Had Sexual Conduct With Student, Prosecutor Says
A 67-year-old Jersey City charter school teacher was charged with having sexual conduct with a student, authorities said. Steven Gordon was released after being processed following alleged "Inappropriate contact" at the University Academy Charter High School on West Side Avenue in Jersey City during school hours on May 29, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Teaneck police responding to a street fight between two women arrested one of them and summoned EMS after the other discharged pepper spray, authorities said. Fransheska Liriano-Benitez, 32, of Palisades Park had punched the other woman in the head outside a Palisade Avenue home between Griggs and Sherman avenues shortly before 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18, Police Chief Andrew R.
