Man Charged In Fatal Newark Hit-and-Run: Prosecutor
A 49-year-old Newark is facing charges after fatally striking a pedestrian and leaving the scene on Friday, May 31, authorities said.
At 3 a.m., a vehicle driven by Ruben Dominguez struck and killed Mario Calvache, 34, at Wilson Avenue and Hensler Street, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said. Calvache was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
Dominguez is charged with vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of a fatal crash and leaving an injured victim, authorities said. He was released after a court appearance, authorities said.

A 49-year-old former Newark resident was convicted on Wednesday, June 12, in a 2009 Newark homicide after he spent 11 years on the run, authorities said.
In May 2009, Cesar Campos and his conspirators killed Ricky Lauracuent using a knife outside the Pink Cat Lounge, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II said.
Campos was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder, aggravated manslaughter and multiple weapons offenses, Stephens said.

A 46-year-old New Jersey man was arrested by US Marshals in Virginia on Wednesday, June 5 for attempted murder and accusations he sexually assaulted two people including a juvenile, authorities said.
Caream Davis, of Irvington, NJ was arrested in Richmond, VA following the assaults on an adult and a juvenile on Monday, June 3, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II and Irvington Public Safety Director Tracy Bowers said.

A 29-year-old Newark man was killed after his motorcycle collided with a vehicle on the late afternoon of Tuesday, June 4, authorities said.
At 5 p.m., police responded to Broadway and Oriental Street on a report of a crash between a motorcycle and a Honda fit vehicle, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Frage said.
