'Exhausted, Stressed': Hudson Valley Healthcare Workers To March For Better Conditions A group of Hudson Valley healthcare workers is asking for better conditions and the opportunity to negotiate a contract.  As part of their effort to improve circumstances at hospitals in both Dutchess and Putnam counties, a "Dignity March" will be held on Thursday, Dec. 1 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Poughkeepsie starting at Vassar Brothers Hospital at 45 Reade Pl. and ending at the Mid-Hudson Bridge, according to the 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East union.  Those organizing the march said that poor working conditions at both Vassar Brothers Hospital and Putnam Hospi…

Man Stabs Mother, Kills Pedestrian In Hit-Run Crash While Fleeing, Police Say A man who allegedly stabbed his mother and then killed a pedestrian in a fatal hit-and-run crash in the area has been apprehended. The incident unfolded in Dutchess County around 9:44 p.m., on Wednesday, May 20, when Fishkill Police responded to a report of a vehicle-pedestrian auto accident in the area of Route 82 and Crestwood Court.  When officers arrived on the scene, along with the New York State Police, they found a pedestrian had been struck and was seriously injured.  The vehicle involved became disabled after striking a curb and the operator fled the scene on foot, Fishk…

Police ID Two Men, Woman Hospitalized After Wrong-Way Head-On Crash Police have identified three people hospitalized in a wrong-way, head-on crash that caused the closure of a stretch of the Taconic State Parkway this week. It happened on the southbound side around 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4 in Pleasant Valley just south of Exit 54 (Route 44). An investigation revealed a 2019 Mercedes Sprinter, operated by Jim George, 42, of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, was driving north in the southbound lanes and struck a 2017 Subaru Impreza, state police said. George was transported to Vassar Brothers Hospital, and treated for non-life threatening injurie…
