Leaders in New York are making it easier for people to become school bus drivers in an attempt to tackle a growing national shortage. Angelica Nappi’s death won’t be in vain. The Long Island 14-year-old – who grew up in Holbrook and died at the hands of a reckless driver in February 2008 – was the inspiration behind “Angelica’s Law,” signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul this week. It decreases the number of prior license suspensions needed to qualify for first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a felony. Although it may be easy to get distracted by beautiful foliage while driving in the fall, New York officials are warning motorists to keep an eye on the road for deer -- and even moose -- as the weather gets colder. Gov. Kathy Hochul has ordered state police to crack down on the thefts of vehicle catalytic converters in high-crime areas of New York. Thousands of undocumented immigrants living in New York will soon be able to obtain a valid driver’s license now that a new law has taken effect. The Green Light Law, which was signed by New York Gov. 13 Westchester Businesses Charged In Underage Drinking Sting
Thirty-nine area restaurants and stores were cited for selling alcohol to undercover minors during stings in the area. The New York State Liquor Authority used decoys to target restaurants and stores statewide as part of an effort to look for fake IDs and local locations that will sell alcohol to minors. Grocery stores, restaurants and liquor stores were all targeted during the sting operation. In total, decoys were sent to 851 businesses across 46 counties last month, with 186 in total reportedly selling to minors. Man Makes Threats, Menaces Victims At DMV In Hudson Valley, Police Say
Nobody enjoys a trip to the DMV, but a 28-year-old area man took things to a whole new level. New York State Police troopers were dispatched to the Department of Motor Vehicles on Marshall Road in Wappingers Falls at approximately 9:10 a.m. on Monday, June 18, where there was a report of a man with a gun making threats in the building.
