Wind-Driven Attic Blaze Damages Buchanan Residence A blaze that ignited in the attic of a Northern Westchester residence proved to be a tough battle for firefighters thanks to gusty winds. The blaze began on Thursday, March 21 just after 1 p.m. at a residence in Buchanan, according to the Croton-on-Hudson and Millwood Fire Departments. Fire Destroys One School Bus, Damages Others In Yorktown Heights A bus was destroyed and two others damaged when a two-alarm fire ripped through a bus storage and repair garage in Yorktown Heights. The fire was reported at 5:09 p.m. Wednesday at the Baumann & Sons Bus Corporation at 1701 Front St., according to the Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to damaging the buses, the fire also damaged part of the repair area of the garage and the structure sustained heavy damage as a result of the fire, the fire department reported. Fire Leaves Several Families Displaced, Damages Bakery In Northern Westchester Several families were left homeless following a fire at a three-story home in Northern Westchester.The fire started around 6:15 p.m. Sunday at 1049 Main St., in Peekskill, according to the Peekskill Fire Department. Arriving firefighters found heavy fire on the third floor, the fire department said. Several additional fire departments were called in to help bring the fire under control within an hour of arrival, the department said. Village Of Buchanan Officer Hailed A Hero For Saving Baby Officials with the Village of Buchanan are hailing one of their officers a hero after he saved the life of an 11-month-old baby who was not breathing. According to officials on Facebook, on Tuesday at about 4:45 p.m. Officer Robert Budde received a call from a hysterical woman. The only information Budde could obtain over the phone was the address. When he arrived, the woman brought him to the 11-month-old baby she was caring for. The baby was not breathing and had no pulse.
