Yorktown Athletic Trainer Receives Gatorade Award

YORKTOWN, N.Y.-- David Byrnes, the athletic trainer at Yorktown High School has been awarded the 2011 Gatorade District 2 Secondary School Athletic Trainer Recognition award.

Byrnes was described by Fio Nardone as a positive force in the Yorktown athletic teams.

“Dave has touched the lives of many of our kids, and we are proud of his work to educate, care for, and inspire the health, safety and accomplishments of our athletes,” Nardone said.

The award comes from the Secondary Schools Athletic Training Committee of the National Athletic Trainers Association. According to a school press release, the award “reinforces the competent medical care that athletic trainers in the high schools perform.”

Byrnes was nominated for his commitment to excellence, commitment to the school and the community and his professionalism and integrity.

“He was selected, in part, because of his constant willingness to go the extra mile, often at his own expense, to help athletes and community members in need of medical attention,” read a press release from the school.

Byrnes is also the President of the Section One Athletic Trainers' Society and treasurer of the New York State Athletic Trainers' Association.
