Yorktown Residents Earn College Academic Honors

YORKTOWN, N.Y. - Three educators from the Lakeland School District recently received their doctoral degrees from St. John's University.

During a hooding ceremony May 8 on the Queens campus, Dr. Theresa Wilkowski, director of curriculum; Dr. Kathryn Accurso, second grade teacher at Van Cortlandtville Elementary School; and Dr. Karen Gagliardi, principal at Thomas Jefferson Elementary school; all earned their Ed.D degrees in Instructional Leadership from St. John's School of Education.

Wilkowski is a resident of Mohegan Lake. Gagliardi lives in Yorktown, and Accurso resides in neighboring Somers.

In other college news:

Ashley Sanchez of Yorktown was among 175 University of Scranton students inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta, the national honor society of freshman. Inductees are full-time students maintaining a grade point average of 3.5 or above, who rank in the top 20 of their class.

Liane Helen Ranagan of Yorktown graduated from Saint Michael's College with a bachelor of arts degree in Spanish on May 14.

Tiffany M. Montesione of Yorktown received a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Quinnipiac University on May 13.

Thomas McGuire of Yorktown was among 1,107 students who graduated from Keene State College on May 5.
