Allyson Pitzel, who graduated Yorktown in 2013, recently received the Summa Cum Laude Award from the University of Alabama. Pitzel is majoring in the Multiple Abilities Program. Pitzel will be certified K-6 elementary and special education.
The Summa Cum Laude Honors Award is given to students who have maintained a GPA of a 4.0 throughout their four years of college. At the University of Alabama, students who receive this honors are given a stole, as well as a red cap to wear on the day of their graduation.
Pitzel also received the College of Education's Most Distinguished Undergraduate Scholar Award. This award is given to the student with the highest cumulative GPA.
After graduation, Pitzel plans on pursuing a master's degree in Special Education through the Multiple Abilities Program at Alabama. She will also be working as a Graduate Assistant and conducting research through the university's literacy center.
