Voters OK $14.5 Million Lakeland Security Bond

SHRUB OAK, N.Y. -- Lakeland Central School District  voters approved the $14.5 million Safety, Security and Health Bond proposition yesterday by a vote of 704-378, the district reported in a press release.

The measure includes the addition of a wide range of safety and security items throughout the district's schools.

Since most of the bond would qualify for state aid, only about $7 million of the package will fall on the shoulders of taxpayers, LoHud.com reported.

The upgraded security will feature surveillance camera systems, swipe-card access around the perimeter of eight school buildings, double vestibules in front of each building, phones in every classroom and fire doors in hallways, according to LoHud.com.
