Lakeland Students to Participate in Music Festival

YORKTOWN, N.Y.-- Four students from Lakeland's Van Cortlandtville Elementary School will participate in the annual Westchester County School Music Association’s (WCSMA) All-County Chorus Festival.

The students recently sang at Lakeland's Board of Education meeting for an audience of proud parents. The students sang their school's song, to not only show off their own talent but the lessons students at Van Cortlandtville are taught.

The students, Nicole Artese, Ratu Bolenaivalu, Liliana Guglich and Flora van Hagen, will take part in the festival at SUNY Purchase on March 10. The WCSMA is a unit of the New York State School Music Association and represents more than 450 music educators from 55 school districts, including private and parochial schools. They will perform in the elementary grades category.

Music Teacher Cynthia Ramirez explained that schools from throughout Westchester meet up at the festival to rehearse and then perform a concert of music.

"The kids are very excited and realize what an honor it is to represent their school and Lakeland at this festival," she said.
