YORKTOWN, N.Y.-- Students from Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School were paid a visit by the King Arthur Flour company, which inspired them to donate loaves of bread to a variety of community organizations.
The program was brought to the school through the efforts of Home and Career teacher, Christina Connors, who arranged to have the program, Life Skills Bread Baking, taught to the students.
A baker from King Arthur Flour, along with two student assistants, demonstrated the bread making process to the sixth and seventh grade students in a middle school assembly. Students were then given a package of materials to take home to make bread. Students made two loaves each, one for themselves, and the other was donated to a community organization, such as Midnight Run, Family Ties in Peekskill or The Sunny Donut breakfast program run by the Jan Peek shelter.
According to King Arthur Flour, the program has reached more than 155,000 students nationwide since it began in 1992.
