So when Rich Snedaker paid a visit to the sports medicine class at The Tech Center at Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES, students gave their full attention.
“He has an amazing amount of information to share, and the students were fascinated,” said Tech Center Sports Medicine teacher Will Brightman.
Snedaker demonstrated how to best prepare athletes for events as well as effective ways to stretch out muscle groups and develop optimal range of motion.
“You can’t expect the athlete to tailor himself to your program; you need to tailor your program to the athlete,” Snedaker said, “because everyone is different and every body reacts differently. Some athletes are extremely flexible, while some are more rigid, so you have to use what works best for the individual.”
Snedaker also told students the best way to deal with sports injuries.
"The body knows how to fix itself, he said. “Good posture, rest, nutrition and mobilization are how the body heals itself.”
