Yorktown Police Charge Man With Attempted Assault

YORKTOWN, N.Y. – A Bronx man is facing misdemeanor charges after he was accused of  hitting and choking a woman, police said.

Antony Puoti, 43, was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing and attempted assault after a woman reported the incident to police on Monday. Puoti voluntarily turned himself into the police Tuesday morning, according to the report.

Puoti was arraigned at Yorktown Justice Court and is scheduled and released on $400 bail. He is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 2.

In other blotter news:

  • Tracy Cleary, 43, of Mahopac, was charged with misdemeanor petty larceny after she was accused of attempting to shoplift from Sears in the Jefferson Valley Mall, police said. Police responded at 1:09 p.m. on Sept. 22 on reports of a shoplifter in custody. Cleary was accused of concealing $209.97 worth of assorted merchandise from the store and attempting to leave. She was arraigned at Yorktown Justice Court and released on $400 bail. She is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 25.
  • Police Officer Brian Nicholson was on routine patrol Monday morning when he noticed the porch of a Hanover Street home had caught fire. Nicholson pulled into the driveway and put out most of the fire with an extinguisher, the report said. Nicholson and a second officer knocked on the windows and doors to notify the home's occupants, who were unaware of the fire. The residents safely escaped the home and nobody was injured, police said.
