Yorktown Man Accused Of Stealing Girlfriend's Backpack

YORKTOWN, N.Y. – A Yorktown man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after police said he stole his girlfriend’s backpack.

A Cortlandt Manor resident reported to police Thursday that her boyfriend, Michael Vazquez, 21, ran away with her backpack that contained $1,280 in computer and phone equipment.

Vazquez was reportedly found at 400 East Main St. in Jefferson Valley and charged with felony grand larceny in the fourth degree. Police said he was in possession of Suboxone and three hypodermic syringes, resulting in separate criminal possession charges for a controlled substance and a hypodermic instrument, according to the report.

Vazquez was arraigned in Yorktown Justice Court and sent to Westchester County Jail after failing to post the $3,500 bail, police said. He is scheduled to return to court Tuesday at 6 p.m.

In other blotter news:

• Jeremy Whalen, 21, of Putnam Valley, is accused of stealing $74.99 in clothing from Sears on Oct. 16, police said. Whalen is scheduled to answer the misdemeanor petty larceny charge on Nov. 20 at 6 p.m.
• Briggite Bonilla, 27, of Jefferson Valley, was hit with multiple misdemeanor charges on Oct. 17 for allegedly driving with a suspended registration and suspended license, police said. Bonilla was pulled over around 11:25 a.m. on Route 6 when an electric plate reader resulted in a “hit," police said. A DMV check allegedly revealed the registration was suspended after an insurance lapse, and her license was suspended for failing to pay a DMV fee and failing to answer a summons, acccording to the report. She was arraigned in Yorktown Justice Court and released on $200 bail.
