On Friday afternoon, following a brief, but extensive investigation, police announced that they arrested 28-year-old suspect.
The suspect has been identified as Garrison resident Paul H. Rivera, who has been charged with two counts of attempted burglary in the second degree, a Class D felony, and grand larceny in the fourth degree, a Class E felony. Rivera was processed and held for arraignment in Yorktown Court, police said.
Rivera had been arrested at his temporary residence on Spillway Road in Shrub Oak, police said.
At about 8:45 a.m. Thursday, a call was received from Shrub Oak resident reporting that a male subject had just tried to get into their home through a sliding glass door, police said.
Upon being discovered by the homeowner, the male fled on foot, and an extensive search of the area by police did not lead to the discovery of the suspect, according to police.
Police later investigated two other complaints from Shrub Oak residents; one reporting an attempted burglary and the other reporting the theft of property from a motor vehicle, according to police. The continuing investigation led to Rivera's arrest.
Yorktown Police Chief Robert Noble praised his department, investigators and the community, who provided an initial description of the suspect and provided home surveillance video that helped apprehend the suspect. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
