David Grolz, 40, was arrested and charged with assault in the third degree and menacing in the second degree, both Class A misdemeanors after the incident on the 3700 block of Crompond Road (Route 202).
Police had arrived at Grolz's home to investigate an assault complaint, which was "substantiated," Geitner said. Geitner said police did not have any information about the assault.
Contrary to other published reports, Grolz was alone when police arrived. The standoff began when police heard him racking a shotgun. A Yorktown Police hostage negotiator was able to make contact with Grolz and convince him to exit the house and be taken into custody, police said.
Following the standoff, police recovered a shotgun in his home, Geitner said.
