Shortly before 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, crews from the Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to Wilson Road along with firefighters from several other Northern Westchester municipalities.
According to officials, the exterior fire was quickly knocked down before crews began working on “an extremely aggressive interior attack,” making their way into the attic, where the main body of the fire was located. While those crews worked on the interior, additional members went to the roof to open up ventilation and relieve the operators inside who were “encountering extreme heat conditions.”
Firefighters swiftly knocked down the main body of the fire, as well as flare-ups in the walls and ceilings on the first floor. While working, crews from the Mohegan Volunteer Fire Association located the missing cat, and were able to track down its owners.
No injuries were reported. The home sustained serious smoke, water and fire damage to both floors.
Agencies from Croton-on-Hudson, Millwood, Somers, Bedford Hills, Ossining and Mount Kisco also responded.
