The Brookfield Police Department has designated its headquarters' lobby and parking lot as an E-Commerce Safe Zone for legal transactions, featuring 24-hour video surveillance.

The location will be well-lit and secure, but will not include police involvement or participation.

With websites such as Craigslist and eBay offering citizens a variety of personal business opportunities, a safe zone is intended to reduce crime and minimize uneasiness among transaction participants.

The Brookfield Police Department said the safe zone is an attempt to be proactive and wasn't in response to any particular incident.

The Brookfield Police Department is available to answer any questions and can be contacted by calling 203-775-2575 and asking to speak with a member of the community affairs team.
