YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- William George Strohm, 86, of Erlanger, KY and formerly of Yorktown Heights passed away on July 4, surrounded by his loving family.

Strohm was born on August 23, 1930, on Long Island, to Fred and Dorothy Strohm. He served in the Naval Reserve for five years and graduated from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a Masters in electrical engineering.

Strohm accrued numerous patents during his 35-year career with IBM Research and Development. Described as a passionately engaged father and husband, Strohm enjoyed camping across the country with his family and traveling around the world with his wife Lillian.

He coached various sports teams for his children, was an avid golfer in earlier years and took up tennis after retirement. He was proud of his Senior Tennis Champion award.

Most of all, Strohm was proud of his four children. He was preceded in death by his brothers Walter and Ronald Strohm, and grandson Jesse Strohm. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Lillian, sons William (Jenny) Strohm, Jr, Timothy (Marybeth) Strohm, daughters Diane (Mark) Strohm Schumann, Wendy (Douglas) Sterling, sister Norma (Bill) Guggisberg, 14 grandsons, one granddaughter, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
