Mackay, who was working and iving in Selden on Long Island, attended the University of Delaware. He was a salesman in the home construction services industry.
In addition to playing lacrosse as a goaltender in high school and college, Mackay also competed in USSA alpine ski races.
Michael, who was kind and loving to all who knew him, suffered from addiction, a disease he struggled with for many years. While he was unable to overcome that battle, he was quick to lend a hand to others who were struggling with the disease.
He is survived by his parents, Lisa and Skip of Shrub Oak, his brother, Connor, his maternal grandparents, Donald Peters of Yorktown and Debbie Bodnar of Poughkeepsie, his paternal grandmother Hannah Mackay of Lake Worth, FL and his aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be on Sunday, Nov. 12 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Yorktown Funeral Home at 945 E. Main Street in Shrub Oak.
