Yorktowners Smile, Grimace As They Pay Taxes

YORKTOWN, N.Y.-- Stephen Wolf’s exuberant smile seemed out of place Friday at Town Hall Friday, as locals lined up without smiles waiting in line to pay their taxes.

“Hey if I get a paycheck, then the town can get a paycheck too,” Wolf said. “It’s not really that bad, so I’m just gonna smile and wait in line.”

Residents around him didn't seem to embrace his sunny disposition but nonetheless, waited in line Friday in the last day to pay their local taxes.

“It’s bad enough I have to pay taxes, and now I’ve got to stand in line,” said Angela Boyle, who admitted she often tries to pay her taxes by mail rather than wait in the line.

The line stretched from the office through the lobby and up to the Town Clerk’s window at about 2 p.m. Friday—and Town Clerk Alice Roker described the line at that time as “short.”
