YORKTOWN, N.Y.The Yorktown Rotary's biggest fundraiser of the year raised money for the less fortunate while testing the luck and skill of its participants.
The 49th annual Hole-In-One tournament took place at Downing Park last Saturday and Sunday and residents were invited to take their best shot at getting a hole-in-one to win the grand prize of $1,000.
We rely on the good of the community to help us, so we can help others, said Lorraine DeSisto, Yorktown Rotary president.
Rotary member Tony Grasso said the fundraiser allows the Rotary to work on its many service projects, including the gift of life program, tornado relief efforts, scholarships, holiday angel program, literacy programs and its efforts to send wheelchairs to Mexico.
At a previous hole-in-one event, DeSisto said, a little boy beat out his father for the grand prize and has been coming back ever since.
People come because they love to play golf and of course want to win the money, DeSisto said. But they help us out playing a game and doing something fun on the weekend.
Dennis Tate of Cars and Us arranged for different antique cars to be present at the event.
We had somewhat of a light turnout with the cars, but were looking forward to doing this again next year, Tate said. This is a great event for some great causes.
