Yorktown Group Celebrates Life With Cancer Survivors

YORKTOWN, N.Y. - More than 150 people took part Sunday in an inspiring celebration of cancer survivors at Travelers Rest in Ossining.

The eighth annual "Celebrate Life Day" was held by Yorktown-based Support Connection to pay tribute to cancer survivors for their strength and courage and recognize the contributions of their families, friends and other caregivers. The first Sunday in June is also National Cancer Survivors Day, which is marked worldwide in communities throughout the United States, Canada and other countries.

Several moving speeches were given by cancer survivors, including Nancy Heller, a Support Connection co-founder, Roslyn Mann of Yorktown and Gerri Babiarz, one of Support Connection's Spirit of Hope honorees last year.

Founded in 1996, Support Connection is a not-for-profit organization that provides free, confidential support services and programs to people affected by breast and ovarian cancer.
