New York State Police troopers were dispatched to a stretch of the parkway in LaGrange on Oct. 16 following reports of a one-vehicle crash that left the driver, Poughkeepsie resident Adam Roberts with injuries.
Police said that Roberts was driving northbound from New York City back to Poughkeepsie on the Taconic when he claims he fell asleep at the wheel and drove off road, striking a rock embankment.
Roberts was transported to the MidHudson Regional Hospital with severe trauma injuries, police said. While he was being treated, hospital staff found approximately 10 grams of heroin on him and notified state police troopers. After recovering from his injuries, Roberts was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.
After being arraigned, Roberts was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond. He is due back in the Town of Pleasant Valley Justice Court later this year to answer the charges.
