Honoring Veterans Around Yorktown

YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- The residents of Yorktown showed that Nov. 11 wasn't the only day to honor their veterans, as they held several events and ceremonies to do just that this past week.

In the beginning of November, Yorktown resident John McQuillan was honored at a town board meeting by members of the town board as well as State Sen. Greg Ball.

“We stand as a great community, even during tough times, on their shoulders and their commitment and their sacrifice, and they represent the greatest that America has ever had,” Ball said at the ceremony. “You’ve not only served your country but you’ve come back to serve it again and again and again, whether it be a pancake breakfast, an event at the VFW or any event in this town, because these are the faces that I continue to see again and again continue to make this community strong.”

The Thursday before Veterans Day, McQuillan was one of dozens of men who were recognized by Ball at the first-ever Veteran's Hall of Fame.

On 11/11/11 at 11 a.m. the Town Board once again honored veterans in a ceremony in front of Town Hall, where attendees spoke of the importance of always remembering our veterans.

The formal planned days of gratitude to veterans in Yorktown culminated on Sunday, with a parade organized by residents to honor veterans who live in Yorktown.
