Free Slurpee Day Ends on Empty in Yorktown

YORKTOWN, N.Y.-- The rising temperatures and a love of Slurpees caused the Yorktown 7-Eleven to run out by Monday afternoon.

Store manager Ramzi Bash explained that the sample size given out on free Slurpee day, 7/11/11, are 7.11 ounces—and that his store ran out sometime before he got into work at 5 p.m.

“I feel so bad, you know? I hate to deny people a slurpee if they love it so much, and people love slurpees,” he said in between ringing up customers who decided to buy their own slurpees instead.

Ramzi said he couldn’t even estimate how many slurpees had been give away throughout the day.

“Hundreds at least, several hundreds I’m sure,” Bash said. “I’m disappointed too -- everybody loves slurpees, but the weather made them go way too quick.”
