YORKTOWN, N.Y. - During the first few minutes of the town board meetings Tuesday nights Councilman Vishnu Patel often talks about the work he and other volunteers are doing to plant and maintain flowers and plants around Yorktown.
Patel shared photos with The Daily Yorktown of the improvements being made to the gardens around town on the weekends with the help of various volunteers.
Patel said volunteers including Blossom Nurseries, Mitchell Hardware, Patricia Canini, the Yorktown Leo's, John Tegeder of the planning department and others have helped him.
In addition to the volunteers, who help the councilman with the planting, Patel had a visit from a turkey while working on the plants in front of town hall a few weekends ago. Patel jokingly said the turkey had not visited to help with the planting with the other volunteers-- he was "doing the pledge of allegiance."
