YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. - Edward H. Ward, of Yorktown Heights, died Nov. 20 at Northern Westchester Hospital Center after a brief illness. He was 82.
Born in Croton-on-Hudson on Nov. 26, 1928, he was the son of Edward Harold Ward and Anna May Tompkins.
In September of 1928, he enlisted in the US Navy and served as Electrician's Mate on the Destroyer U.S.S. Brownson for four years. On Sep. 3, 1952, he received honorable discharge.
A skilled carpenter and member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Jointers of America for 50 years, he took great pride in the many homes he constructed.
Ward was a parishioner of St. Patrick's Church in Yorktown, as well as a member of St. Patrick's Senior Citizens, American Legion, Loyal Order of Moose. He was also a life member of Columbia Hose Hook and Ladder Co. 1 in Croton.
Hunting and fishing were his favorite leisurely activities, along with vacationing in the Finger Lakes and Pennsylvania with his wife. Ward is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lillian "Sue" Ward, his sister Marjorie Matero and two nieces.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at Clark Funeral Home in Yorktown Heights. The funeral mass will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Old St. Patrick's Stone Church in Yorktown Heights, followed by interment at Amawalk Hill Cemetery.
