YORKTOWN, N.Y. Eight days after a Yorktown woman last saw her missing son, she says she's going to do what comes hard for a mother who hasn't seen her son since last Monday--and that's wait.
Kathleen Jabusch tells The Daily Yorktown she has spoken to 18 year old Kyle Jabusch several times since police located him in Mississippi, but has not yet seen him, since learning he had been found alive on Friday. Instead, Kathleen's sister, Kyle's godmother, drove to Mississippi to pick the Mohegan Lake teen up, and he's currently staying with her and other family members in Louisiana.
Jabusch says she is anxious to see her son, Kyle, but is willing to wait until he is ready to return home.
We thought it would be a good idea for him to stay in New Orleans, to stay with family and to give him a couple of days to think about what happened here and be away from it for a little, Jabusch said. We have a lot of questions, as Im sure everyone does. But right now its about his safety and his well beingits hard, but were not asking questions yet. Hes with family and hes there as their loved one, for now its just time with family.
Yorktown Police were notified last week that Kyle Jabusch was missing. His parents told them he had not been seen since he went to bed at 1 a.m. January 23. The teen reportedly left a note saying he would never come back home. Police feared for his safety, as no family cars were missing and they did not believe he had any money on him at the time.
Lt. Kevin Soravilla said the lack of funds and the questions as to why he left is what made police classify it as a missing persons case. He had apparently left the house early in the morning, and at the time we felt that he had no money or way to sustain himself, so we upped the ante and took it seriously, Soravilla said.
Soravilla said police used Jabuschs cell phone to help track him down, and when they located the missing teenager, they notified the local sheriffs department in Mississippi which then took him into custody.
Kathleen Jabusch said the Yorktown Police Department and the town went above and beyond" in their search for her son.
We are so proud to live in this community, where there are so may wonderful people including the police, Jabusch said. I believe they did an outstanding job and we will forever be indebted to them for the safe return of our son.
Jabusch said they had not yet asked their son details of how or why he went to Mississippi. "When he comes home, all we want to do is put our arms around him, and when he wants to come forth to his family and talk, thats what well do.
While she says she cannot wait to put her arms around her son, Jabusch said shes focused on one thing, Hes safe, hes okay. And everything else can be figured out in time, she said.
