Anyone who suffers from chronic or even occasional back, shoulder and neck pain knows that it diminishes the quality of life—sometimes for years. Which is why Tom Carpenter was so dedicated to finding a cure.

The Yorktown Heights chiropractor, who holds a doctorate of chiropractic degree, has spent the last three decades working with people suffering from these issues and knew he could find a solution.

Amazon, Walmart, K-Mart, and Sears agreed. Dr. Carpenter's new product, Stand Corrected , a portable, lightweight, harness-like stretching tool, is now available at these retailers with others in the works.

Stand Corrected, which Dr. Carpenter says takes minutes to be effective,  is easy to use and is portable so it can be taken anywhere—school, office, vacation or at home.

The invention -- his first to come to market -- utilizes the weight of the user’s arms to provide a gentle stretch that elongates shortened and tight muscles, corrects posture, aligns the spine and reduces pain.

"I wanted to come up with something people would actually use every day.

"And most importantly, something that I believe would really help them," he said.

His main audience for the product is anyone who spends prolonged periods of time looking down with their shoulders rolled in -- think office workers staring at a computer, teenagers texting from a smartphone, dentists, massage therapists and chiropractors leaning over patients all day or gardeners bending over to dig in the dirt.

"The list is endless," he said. "Most of us look down too much and would benefit from Stand Corrected."

The new invention is designed for people 13 years and older. And, despite its’ name, can be used sitting or standing.

And, said Dr. Carpenter, who's also a Certified Personal Trainer, and Corrective Exercise Specialist, used daily, over time, it can reverse damage caused by years of poor posture.
