Former Yankees Exec New Yorktown Youth Advocate

YORKTOWN, N.Y.-- The Yorktown Teen Center has announced that former New York Yankees executive Rick Cerrone is the 2011 Joan Valenstein Memorial Youth Advocate.

According to the center, Cerrone received the award because of his unwavering support for the Teen Center, specifically when it came to renovating the Teen Lounge. Cerrone sought funding and donations, and the finished product is now an environment where teens can come together in a safe and entertaining environment.

“I am truly humbled to be honored by the Yorktown Teen Center with the Joan Valenstein Memorial Youth Advocate Award.  The renovation of the Teen Center was a joyous experience and could not have been possible without the enthusiasm and commitment of so many members of the community. I will be happy to accept this honor on behalf of these very generous individuals.” Cerrone said.

Cerrone, who comes from Yorktown, once attended the original Teen Center- formerly known as the Teen Canteen which stands where the Alternative High School now stands in Yorktown. The award was created in honor of Valenstein, who was a youth advocate and founding member of the Teen Center Board, passed away in a fatal car accident in May of 2010.

Cerrone, who once headed up Media Relations for the Bronx Bombers,  will be honored at the Yorktown Teen Center anniversary dinner which will be held  October 20, 2011.
