Five Questions for Yorktown Resident, Pelham Owner

PELHAM, N.Y. – Susan Sepulveda opened Sue's Corner on Fifth Avenue in Pelham four decades ago. She has lived in Yorktown Heights for more than 20 years. She is a former board member on the Pelham Chamber of Commerce.

Q: What is your favorite aspect of Yorktown?

A: My neighborhood. The friendliness of the community. I have a lot of customers who have moved up there so they pick up on my back porch. I call them my "back porch customers."

Q: Do you have a particularly fond memory of your time in Yorktown?

A: The open space. That's big in Yorktown. Parks, recreation. I don't spend a lot of time there because I'm mostly here [in Pelham].

Q: Do you have a favorite place in Yorktown?

A: The pool, the recreation facilities. They're kept so nice and they're friendly and they're convenient.

Q: How did you balance your job at Sue's Corner with your role as board member for the Chamber of Commerce?

A: That's why I'm not a board member anymore. It's a lot of work if you want to do it right. Not a lot of people volunteer anymore. Everybody's got a job and a job after that. But I still help them out. It comes down to a core six to eight people that do everything, which is the way it is in any organization.

Q: Do you think you will ever leave Yorktown?

A: No, because it's my home and I've put a lot of time and energy into making it comfortable.
