The Yorktown Farmers Market will be running its winter farmers market starting Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Jefferson Valley Mall. The farmers market will be indoors at the mall until March 31. Non-holiday hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., while holiday hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"Almost all of our vendors are following us inside," Karen Muendell, a chef who helped bring the farmers market back to Yorktown, said. "The mall thought it was a great idea, they're looking forward to it."
Vendors include Meredith's Country Bakery, Firehorse Premium Foods, and The Cheese Guy.
Yorktown will be one of the few places in the area offering a winter market. Muendell said the outdoor market, which returned to Yorktown after a five-year hiatus, was a big hit in town.
"People were very enthusiastic," Muendell said. "People were very happy to see us back, that was very gratifying, I am very excited, I hope it builds over the winter and we can get more awareness from mall shoppers.
The farmers market also gave back to the community, by having a local charity residents could donate to each week. Muendell believes a farmers market is the right fit for Yorktown.
"Yorktown was originally a farming community," Muendell said. "There are still wonderful farms in this area. It's so nice to be able to get fresh local seasonal food."
