Champ was the SPCA Grand Marshall for the dog walk, which wrapped around FDR State Park in Yorktown Heights Saturday morning.
He was found by police in January with a serious head injury so severe that his eyes weren't visible. After two surgeries to repair his face, he was adopted by the McClure family of Yorktown Heights.
"The Dog Walk and Pet Fair helps the SPCA of Westchester raise the funds needed to take on cases like Champ so that the shelter animals can get the medical attention they need and get a second chance," according to a press release.
Chevy Chase was scheduled to appear, but could not because he hugged a cat. His wife, Jaynie, explained Chase is allergic to cats, yet lives in a house with two. They are kept downstairs, but he let them upstairs and, worse, cuddled with them.
Jaynie said Chase can "do dumb things sometimes" and apologized for his absence.
While many people were excited to see the comedy legend, many were there to share the beautiful day with their beloved pets.
